New Sword Art Online Anime Release Date, Episode Schedule

Sword Art Online isn’t a pretty famous anime franchise, and it has enjoyed quite a lot of success in the recent years. It’s been a a while since we got an anime for Sword Art Online. The movie Ordinal Scale was a huge hit, and now, it is time for yet another sword art online anime to begin. A couple of months ago, it was confirmed that Sword Art Online would be getting a new series in April of 2018. Now, we have news that Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online will be the series that’s going to begin on April 7, and it’s going to be a spin-off of the original Sword Art Online series. The anime will be an adaptation of Keiichi Sigsawa’s light novel, Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online.

On Saturday, the official website for the television anime of Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online revealed that the anime will premiere on April 7, 2018. Further information stated that the anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, and Gunma TV on April 7 at 24:00 (effectively April 8 at 12:00 a.m.), before later airing on MBS, TV Aichi, and CS NTV Plus. The series will also stream on AbemaTV. We also have a bit of casting information, thanks to the people at Anime News Network. According to them, Tomori Kusunoki stars as Llenn, and Yōko Hikasa also stars in the series as Pitohui. Kazuyuki Okitsu will play M, and Chinatsu Akasaki will play Fukaziroh.

  • The anime project will be handled by Studio 3Hz, and Masayuki Sakoi will be in charge of directing the series.
  • Yousuke Kuroda will be in charge of series composition and the script. Meanwhile, Yoshio Kosakai is the chief animation director. Eir Aoi is going to perform the opening theme song of the anime, called “Ryūsei”. Kusunoki is also performing the ending theme song.

The story do the anime is also slightly different from the ones we’ve got previously, but that’s to be expected, since this is a spin-off series. It is based on Karen Kohiruimaki, a 6 foot tall college student, who is extremely insecure about her height. Apparently, she is also bad at dealing with people in the real world, so she enters the world of Gun Gale Online. Her personal avatar is named Llenn, and in contrast to her original self, she is less than 5 feet tall. Llenn is a perfect representation of what Karen actually wants to be. In the world of Gun Gale Online, she meets another female player, who goes by Pitohui. They hit it off, but one day Pitohui pressures her to participate in “Squad Jam,” a team Battle Royale variation of the Bullet of Bullets tournament.

As the anime is drawing ever closer, I thought I’d make a schedule of how I think the anime would go:
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 1 – April 7 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 2 – April 14 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 3 – April 21 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 4 – April 28 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 5 – May 5 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 6 – May 12 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 7 – May 19 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 8 – May 26 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 9 – June 2 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 10 – June 9 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 11 – June 16 2018
  • Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online Episode 12 – June 23 2018
Of course, there may be changes to this. For one, the episode count might be more than 12, but I’m certain this is going to be it. Additionally, there might be breaks in between, so that would change the entire schedule. I’ll make sure to update the schedule with respect to the information we get as the debut draws closer.
